Adding a Visual Studio project to Github

We’ve recently acquired the Kellerman Software code base, which represents two decades of development. Historically, we relied on Azure and TFS (Team Foundation Server). However, we’re now dedicated to migrating this valuable code base to GitHub.

So, let’s start with step one: How do you add an existing project to GitHub?

First, look in the project directory and delete any 'git' files. In our projects there are two: a folder called '.git' and a file named '.gitiginore'. You have to 'view hidden objects' to see the former. 

Next, in Visual Studio click the 'Add to Source Control' link in the bottom right:

You'll get this dialog. Fill it in if needed and 'Create and Push'
