Your First Navigation List

This is a walk through for creating a simple Navigation List using Dynamics GP 2010's Navigation List Builder. 

In this example we'll create a list of items and create an Action to open the Item Maintenance window.

Create the List

Navigate to TOOLS > SMART LIST BUILDER > NAVIGATION LIST BUILDER

Enter a List ID: OPEN ITEM MASTE

Enter a List Name: Open Item Master

In the Navigation Pane drop down, choose Inventory

Click the plus sign next to Tables

For Product, choose Microsoft Dynamics GP

For Series, choose Inventory

For Table, choose Item Master. 

In the main window, check these fields in the Display column: Item Number, Item Description, Standard Cost and Current Cost

Check these fields in the Preview column: Item Number, Item Description, Item Short Name and Item Generic Description

(These choices are arbitrary, but give us a chance to explore functionality)

Add the Open Form Action

Click Actions

From the Add Action drop down, choose Open Form

Description: Open Item Master Form

Group: Go To

Product: Microsoft Dynamics GP

Series: Inventory

Form: Item Maintenance

Click the Add button next to the Tasks window, fill it in as follows:

Task Type: Set a field value and run the field script

Field: Item Number

Table: Item Master

Value Item Number

Click Save, Save

Set the Default Action to Open Item Master Form

Click OK

Click Save

View the list in Dynamics

In the main Dynamics window, select the Inventory view as shown, and the new list will appear at the bottom of the navigation. 

Open the Open Item Master Navigation List

The form should look something like below. Note the 'Go To' button on the tool bar. 

Check an item and click 'Open Item Master Form', the Item Maintenance form should open with the item selected

Note that Standard Cost and Current Cost are displayed in the grid, but Item Short Name and Item Generic Description are displayed below. 

Also note that the item number appears underlined in blue in the details area. Clicking on the item number would open the Item Maintenance form also (this is the default action and not a result of our Go To action
